April-May 2022 – A Week Away

This three-week study will take us on a virtual trip to summer camp as we look at friends, fun, and faith – not just in how important they are to this summer event, but also in how significant they are to our everyday lives getting to know and following Jesus!

(Remember that we release our teaching videos and other content on our YouTube channel. So even if your 5th-8th grader can’t be here in person, he/she can still stay connected. You can even subscribe or turn on alerts so you know when each video comes out! Check it out: YouTube.com/mpcc5678 )

Here’s how that breaks down over the next few weeks:

April 24 – Week 1 – Friends

(Usually one of the first things students ask is who else is going to camp/conference? And one of the highlights is growing closer to existing and/or making new friends.)

We’ll be discussing the importance of friendship in a life of faith.

The lesson will highlight a few cultural and biblical examples of friendship while teaching principles we see from Jesus and Paul in how we treat each other.

Parent Cue: Here are a few options to cue a simple conversation with your student after they have participated in our service – in-person or online:

  • How would you describe your best/closest friends?
  • Why are friends important in your life?
  • How can you be a better friend this week?

May 1 – Week 2 – Fun

(What draws students to camp/conference and usually one of the first stories they tell when they get home revolves around FUN.)

This lesson will focus on the overflowing life Jesus describes in John 10:10 and some of the humor often missed in Jesus’ ministry and the life of his followers.

Parent Cue: Here are a few options to cue a simple conversation with your student after they have participated in our service – in-person or online:

  • What would you say is the most fun thing you did this school year?
  • What are you looking forward to being the most fun thing you’ll do this summer?
  • What decision are you making this week to have an “overflowing” life?

May 8 – Week 3 – Faith

Our main focus of camp/conference in the summer is developing students’ faith.

This lesson will challenge students to see that summer camp/conference is one of the few times they spend several days, 24/7, with peers and adults.

It tests how well they can love and serve each other.

It’s also a HUGE opportunity to ask questions, have powerful conversations, and process decisions related to starting or continuing to follow Jesus.

For a parent, this is one of the best investments you can make in partnering with the church to help your child(ren) know and follow Jesus.

Parent Cue: Here are a few options to cue a simple conversation with your student after they have participated in our service – in-person or online:

  • What have you learned or been challenged by at camp in the past?
  • What questions do you have about Jesus or following him?
  • Who is someone, besides us (parents), whom you can go to with important questions?
